Longevity: this week, Sardinia will host an international gathering dedicated to one of the most fascinating questions of our time: how can people live longer, healthier and more fulfilling lives?
The Longevity Experience – Connecting Sardinia, Okinawa, Nicoya and Ikaria will bring together researchers, healthcare professionals, policy makers and representatives from some of the world’s most famous Blue Zones – regions known for their exceptional concentrations of centenarians and healthy ageing populations.
The event aims to go beyond traditional discussions about life expectancy. Instead, it focuses on understanding the factors that allow people not only to live longer, but to maintain wellbeing, independence and strong social connections throughout their lives.
Representatives from Sardinia (Italy), Okinawa (Japan), Nicoya (Costa Rica) and Ikaria (Greece) will share experiences and perspectives from communities that have become globally recognised for their longevity traditions.
Alongside cultural and tourism experts, the meeting will feature leading voices from the scientific community, including geneticists, geriatric specialists and longevity researchers who continue to investigate the relationship between lifestyle, environment, diet and healthy ageing.
Among the speakers will be Dr Roberto Pili, physician, researcher and President of the World Community of Longevity, whose work has focused on understanding how social relationships, daily habits, nutrition and community life contribute to long-term health and quality of life.
One of the key ambitions of The Longevity Experience is to strengthen international cooperation between Blue Zone territories and encourage the development of shared projects in research, education and experiential tourism.
As populations across Europe continue to age, the lessons emerging from these communities are becoming increasingly relevant. The Blue Zones offer valuable insights into how societies can promote healthier ageing, stronger communities and a better quality of life for future generations.
More than a conference, The Longevity Experience is an opportunity to explore what longevity really means in the 21st century—not simply adding years to life, but adding life to those years.
